Learn Scottish Gaelic with Tweederick through humorous island stories, combining beginner to advanced levels in one course designed to reflect how people actually communicate, not how textbooks teach.

Learn Gaelic Through Story, Conversation & Real Use

This is a structured speaking course designed to help you use Gaelic in real-life situations.

This communication course is designed to help you move beyond recognising Gaelic and start using it with confidence.

You won’t be expected to understand everything straight away, and you don’t need a large vocabulary to begin. Instead, you will work with a small number of patterns and learn how to use them clearly and naturally. By doing this, you build confidence from the start, using what you already know rather than waiting until you feel “ready”.

You will be guided step by step through grammar that may feel challenging at first, and that is completely normal. This course focuses on day-to-day speaking, not advanced or academic learning. You are not expected to master everything, but to become familiar with the language through use and repetition. If you are willing to put the work in, you can do this. Over time, you will notice that the same patterns return again and again, and what once felt difficult will become easier and more natural to use in real conversation. There is no strict entry-level, learners at different levels can take part.

Each lesson includes a range of learning levels, reflecting real-life Gaelic where simple and more complex language appear together. You will find some parts straightforward and others more challenging, and that balance is intentional. It allows you to recognise what you already know while gradually stretching your understanding. Because of this layered approach and repetition, preparation is an important part of the process, and it can take between 3 and 5 hours to work through a lesson fully. You are also expected to explore and research grammar independently, using dictionaries and other resources to deepen your understanding where needed. Though some answers are provided, you are expected to arrive in class fully prepared with your own work, ready to use the language in reading, speaking and interaction. Each lesson follows a clear structure that prepares you step by step for speaking. You will read, notice patterns, and then use those same patterns to build short scripts. These scripts are not an end in themselves, they are your preparation for real conversation.

The focus is not on speaking perfectly. It is on keeping going. You will learn how to stay calm, use simple sentences, and continue even when you feel unsure. Over time, this is what builds real confidence. â€‹This approach may feel different at first. You may not understand every detail, and that is completely normal. The aim is not to master everything at once, but to become comfortable using the language step by step.

To get the most out of the course, you will be required to prepare before each lesson using the workbook. If you don't have time to prepare, it's best to skip the taught lesson and return when you can take full advantage of it. This preparation ensures you have the language to work with in class and can take part while keeping the lesson moving for everyone. Questions are always welcome, and time is set aside at the end of each lesson to address anything that is unclear. You can also use the Tweederick group for peer support between sessions.

If you are ready to move from learning Gaelic to actually using it, this course will give you the structure, support, and confidence to do exactly that.

This is about real-life speaking. You don’t need everything—you just need to use what you know well.

The course is built around a collection of 52 stories, which are being developed into four structured workbooks and a bilingual story book by end 2026. Each workbook guides you step by step from recognising the language to using it in real conversation. The first pilot course group (fully booked) will begin in May 2026, working through the initial material together. A waiting list is now open for the late summer and autumn groups, as the remaining stories and workbooks continue to be developed and released. The first book will be available in our shop once completed. It is suitable for self-study. Ann is undergoing chemo treatment and needs a bit more time to finish the book between teaching her classes.
