Short Gaelic Immersion  Breaks

Gu Saoghal Na Gàidhlig

Immersion Breaks and Language Learning Breaks

Our immersion breaks are the ideal opportunity for intermediate and advanced learners to come together to focus on the practical conversation development of Gaelic in a relaxed, fun environment that stimulates conversation. There will be minimal use of English and all are encouraged to keep a daily Gaelic diary for reflection and further development of the use of the language.

Daily Activities will depend on the length of the break and will include island excursions, wildlife watching, crofting life, walking etc.
( some activities weather dependent) The immersion breaks encourage vocabulary development and enable students to connect to
the Gaelic language in the heartland of the language bringing a sense of belonging and a part of the Gaelic World. with a feeling
of belonging to the Gaelic.

Our language learning breaks give beginner and post-beginner learners a chance to combine intensive learning breaks with the exploration
of the Gaelic island environment. While taking advantage of the opportunities to meet native Gaelic speakers and to enjoy our culture as well as wildlife, you will be immersed in our beautiful language throughout your stay. As many of you can't make it to the island, I also run my intensive weekend courses on mainland Scotland and will resume once the COVID rules allow.

The Islands

The Uists and Harris

Few places are as evocative as the Outer Hebrides and where better to try out your new language skills than in the heartland of Gaelic in the Outer Hebrides.
The Gaelic language is still spoken on these islands on a daily basis and is classed as a working language and can be heard across all islands from Lewis to Barra.  Through our short immersion breaks, you will be able to practice communicating in the language with your fellow students and while out on our fields trips converse with locals in different locations. This helps build up confidence in conversation and allows you to put to use your newly learned skills.

The Packages

Only the Best

Imagine the opportunity to spend a weekend at a Hebridean retreat away from the outside world where you will immerse yourself in all that is Gaelic. Take the opportunity to meet other students, go on motorboat trips around this secluded area, explore the islands, sing some Gaelic songs, sit and relax by a warm fire and try out all you have learned. Through this relaxed and informal setting, the learning journey is fun and rewarding and we know from past experience students love it.

Day Trips

Your Gateway to Learning

As part of our immersion experiences, we believe that to enrich your conversational skills it is best to head out into the local environment and test your language skills with local interaction. The native language is connected in these islands with everyday life from crofting to fishing, shopping and pub culture. The richness of the language spoken in local dialects encourages you to listen and try and converse and learn new words and phrases along the way.
